TONS OF NEW CONCEPT ART UNLEASHED!

18pieces of Aladdin 3477 concept sketches, paintings, and previz boards from artist/writer/director Matt Busch have been unveiled on the official site’s Concept Design Gallery.

The visual design for this epic project began over two decades ago, when Busch was still in college, studying illustration and film. Beginning as a comic book called Kastar Shandax and evolving into a graphic novel and magazine serial called Daria Jontak, the storyline was later developed as a film called Kleptomode before finally streamlining into a futuristic version of the familiar classic, Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp.

With two decades worth of visuals to draw upon, most of what’s been released to the public has been early designs that has influenced the current direction of the film.  However, specific visuals from Aladdin 3477 have been vague if not sparse…

…Until now!

The new glimpses into the Asian world, 1,500 years from now, shows us societies that live with multiple technologies. With limited resources, many hodge-podge the old with the new. People live in used locales, similar to the original Star Wars universe, coexisting with robots, holograms, and vehicles that defy gravity.

The art gives us our first sneak peeks at major characters, like Aladdin and his sidekick Fidgi, as well as darker and mysterious characters like Lochan Shyamal, Harshad, and Shankar Prawn.

Visually, we also get a rough glimpse at the basic story, as if it wasn’t apparent that it is inspired by the original Aladdin tale.  However, Busch is quick to point out that there will be plenty of surprises.

All is not as it seems. Sure, the basic premiss begins as the basic Aladdin story we all know. In addition to the fantastical settings, there are a lot more layers and characters to the story. Half-way in, it’ll spin in so many directions that you’ll have no idea what to expect next.”

Some key images to note are a ship that Aladdin pilots called a SkySail, pursuing the lamp in the mystical Dipali Chamber, and we get a brief glimpse of Aladdin and Fidgi with the Jinn of Wisdom himself!

In addition to the new concept art added, massive updates and spring cleaning has happened throughout the site, so you may want to browse through to see what’s new, and find what Easter Eggs you can.

So what’s next?

Busch continues to work with his relatively small team to plan what they can before the major preproduction begins this winter building sets, larger props and vehicles.  This winter is also when casting will be done, so expect some juicy announcements soon.

Aladdin 3477 is scheduled to film in the Summer of 2014 and expected to be released if all goes as planned in 2015.

As always keep checking back here at the official site for the latest and greatest on the movie!  Also, “Liking” the official Facebook page HERE and “following” Matt Busch’s Twitter HERE will have interesting tidbits, too.
