January 2014 Update with Matt Busch
From the desk of Director Matt Busch, here’s an update on what’s going on in the land of ALADDIN 3477!
Hi everyone! Times have never been more exciting for me, as I’ve wrapped up the bulk of my pre-existing projects so I can work full-time on my magnum opus, Aladdin 3477. It’s been my dream project for as long as I can remember, so it’s hard to believe we will begin shooting about 5 months from now! Lots going on, so if you’re interested in keeping up, here are some random tidbits.
**I’m currently polishing the 3rd draft of the script. The above image captures a look at what these revisions can look like on the table. The plot has lots of cool twists and turns, and the action scenes are really going to be out of this world. Organizing this now looks pretty complex- it is, and I don’t even have my index cards busted out at this moment! I can’t tell you how happy I am with the story. I was ecstatic about the first draft, but it keeps getting better, and I’m seriously doing the happy dance with the new revisions that are making it even better.
**I’m also knee-deep in concept art. You can see a couple snippets on the table in the image above. I’ve having a blast solidifying the looks of these characters, vehicles, robots, sets, weapons, props, and everything cool I’m envisioning in Asia, 1,500 years in the future. Can’t wait to share more of it!
**Right now we are in the middle of an Open Casting Call for numerous roles of all ages and ethnicities. If interested, you can find out more about that HERE. So far, we’ve had over 5,000 people submitting, which is wonderful! Brandt Keller is our main casting director, and he is looking at every single one with a fine tooth comb, organizing who could be a fit for which characters. I’ll be more involved once things narrow down a bit. We are continuing to accept submissions until February 1st, so get those head shots and info in!
**February is the month that we will be holding auditions for those selected to move to the next step. Our hope is that we have a cast locked and loaded by March. Note- the auditions are for speaking roles only. There will be opportunities to join us as an extra, and those specifics will be announced closer to filming.
**In addition to having the cast locked, March will be the month we will have moved into a large industrial/commercial space to begin building sets. This will be happening later than I was originally planning, but the timing will actually be perfect. I’m so anxious to share it all as it happens! We’ll also be doing initial actor screenplay read-throughs, as well as getting actors/actresses fitted for costumes.
**April will continue with lots of building, and will also be jammed with physical rehearsals and fight choreography.
**We begin shooting Aladdin 3477 in May!
**Early on, I was very ambitious with the Video Production Diaries. My hope is to continue on with them, but working on the actual movie takes precedence over the behind-the-scenes material. We’ll be capturing every step of the way, and I’m hopeful we’ll have new videos to share soon!
Thanks so much for the interest and your support! I can’t wait to show you more!
