ALADDIN 3477 PROMOTIONAL TOUR ROUNDUP!
Select cast and crew from the Aladdin 3477 movie production have just wrapped a short promotional tour taking them from coast to coast across the United States. To do this, movement on principle photography has temporarily been on hiatus, but the cameras are expected to roll again this May.
Taking time off in the middle of production to promote a movie that hasn’t finished shooting may seem unheard of. Director Matt Busch elaborates, “We had a few opportunities spring up that would allow getting the word out on Aladdin 3477 that were just too good to pass up. We’ve been in production for nearly a year now, so it’s also been a nice break before we jump back into it.”
The first opportunity took place on the East Coast at Full Sail University, the premiere Media Arts College where First Assistant Director and Sound Designer Ric Viers was being inducted into their legendary alumni Hall of Fame. Over a dozen Aladdin 3477 cast and crew members made the trip to Winter Park, Florida to support Viers.
During the eventful week, Viers, Busch, Producer Lin Zy and Actor Erik Steele (Aladdin) participated in several panels and workshops on different aspects of filmmaking. For the first time in the United States, attendees were shown a trailer-esque sizzle reel of Aladdin 3477 footage! Students were also treated to free Aladdin 3477 Teaser Movie Posters, signed by cast and crew!
Weeks later, a group of cast and crew made the trip to the West Coast for the Star Wars Celebration Anaheim in Orange County, California. This was the largest Star Wars convention in history, and one that Busch and Lin Zy were exhibitors as official Star Wars artists. Fans were extremely excited for Director J.J. Abrams to share a brand new Star Wars- Episode VII: The Force Awakens trailer, the film due in theaters this December. Aladdin 3477 cast and crew set up a huge booth which included a sizable section on the property, complete with movie posters, new merchandise and a movie screen playing the sizzle trailer and behind-the-scenes episodes!
Producer Lin Zy comments on bringing Aladdin 3477 to the fandom mix, “Obviously, our movie is very inspired by Star Wars. And most people associate the Aladdin tale with the Disney version. The fact that the sacred saga is now owned by Disney, and the convention was across the street from Disneyland, the opportunity and timing was just too perfect. Star Wars fans and Disney fans are our prime demographic, so we wanted to utilize this show to unleash the first look at our project to this audience.”
How was Aladdin 3477 perceived amongst the fans? Erik Steele states, “I wasn’t really sure what to expect. Everyone was obviously there to see Episode VII material. We were concerned that perhaps fans might not react well to something non-Star Wars invading on their turf, but nothing could have been further from that notion. The reaction was amazing and we’ve definitely struck a chord with our intended audience.”
“I was so proud with how it was perceived.” adds Busch, “I didn’t see or hear from anyone that wasn’t impressed. Of course we are in the sidewalk crack of the shadow of the new Star Wars movie. Heck- we’re fans, too, and are so anxious to see the next chapter of the saga that has inspired our own film! But in the wake of that excitement, to see that this audience was impressed and intrigued by our own production, I couldn’t be more thrilled. We may be the underdogs but the future looks brighter than ever.”
With these shows and a few other professional events out of the way, cast and crew are eager to get back to production at the Kaleidoscope Koi Soundstage in Clinton Township, Michigan. Lin Zy comments, “Everyone is chomping at the bit to start filming again. We start building a new set this weekend and we’re gearing up for a heavy summer shooting schedule. I’m excited to start diving into choreographing some of our epic fight scenes. Everything so far has exceeded our expectations and the best scenes are still yet to come!”
Stay tuned for more glimpses at the production in the coming months!
